金融工程（Financial Engineering）（這只是一個統(tǒng)稱，各個學(xué)校的叫法不同，包括了金融數(shù)學(xué)，數(shù)學(xué)金融，計算金融或者數(shù)理金融（Financial Engineering， Financial Mathematics，Mathematical Finance，Computational Finance）。這是一個具有交叉學(xué)科性質(zhì)的學(xué)科，主要以數(shù)學(xué)工具來建立金融市場模型和解決金融問題。除了金融的專業(yè)知識外，往往還包括了數(shù)學(xué)、統(tǒng)計、物理以及計算機(jī)語言等，因此往往由多個院系聯(lián)合授課，根據(jù)專業(yè)側(cè)重點的不同，可能設(shè)在商學(xué)院下，也可能設(shè)在工學(xué)院或數(shù)學(xué)系下。將金融工程設(shè)立在工學(xué)院內(nèi)的學(xué)校有Princeton　U，Columbia　U，Cornell，U of Michigan－Ann Arbor等，設(shè)在數(shù)學(xué)系下面的有Stanford U，U of Chicago，New York U，U of Southern California，Georgia Institute of Technology等。

金融工程會要求四方面的背景：數(shù)學(xué)，金融，計算機(jī)，統(tǒng)計；通常有一方面背景就可以申請了，但是最好四方面都有，比如說這位同學(xué)問的佛羅里達(dá)。弗羅里達(dá)的這個項目是個PhD目，PhD program with concentration in Quantitative Finance是四個學(xué)院的交叉項目：

Industrial and Systems Engineering (College of Engineering),

Mathematics (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences),

Statistics (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences),

Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate (College of Business). ）

學(xué)校的要求是：

Students seeking admission to the concentration should have strong quantitative skills and a degree in one of the relevant fields such as finance, engineering, statistics, or mathematics. Students with a background in several disciplines are welcome.

所以如果只有一方面背景，最好再充實一下其他幾個科目。比如自己的專業(yè)背景是數(shù)學(xué)，想申請這個學(xué)校，應(yīng)該去學(xué)學(xué)C++，統(tǒng)計學(xué)，輔修或者選修一些金融學(xué)課程，本校或外校都可以。實習(xí)和實踐最好是金融相關(guān)領(lǐng)域，以下是美國大學(xué)金融工程專業(yè)研究生排名，僅供參考：
